I first visited Belgium during a tour of Europe before studying abroad in London, England.  We drove through the countryside and retraced some of the major battles of WWI.  There are cemeteries everywhere. 

The second time I visited, my wife and I had a short stop in Brussels on our way to Paris.  We enjoyed the sleepy but beautiful city by strolling through parks and taking our time with meals.  The capital of Brussels is the seat of European Union (EU) and its government buildings are there.
