The Netherlands

My Journeys: Summer 2003, Winter 2003,
and Winter 2006
I first visited Holland on a European tour before studying abroad in London, England.  The Dutch like to say that God
created the world but the Dutch created Holland.  Most of the country is actually below sea level and huge portions of the country were reclaimed from the North Sea.  Amsterdam and many other parts of the country are connected by a system of canals and accompanying bridges.  The cityscapes are stunning in any season. When cold enough, the canals double as ice skating routes.

Home to Vincent VanGogh, Rembrandt, Vermeer and countless other artistic masters, Holland houses more museums and art galleries than almost anywhere else on Earth.

Ask me what Ann Frank's hiding place smells like.
Ask me how tulip bulbs helped create the stock market.
Ask me how the people know whether or not the king is home.
